Job Description

Reporting to the Retail Channel Account Director, the Space Planning Manager is responsible for ensuring that all retailer’s space management and category review deliverables are met on time including KPI requirements and business objectives. Provide space planning, auditing and data compilation for strategic planning efforts. Follow fundamental retail strategies, but challenge traditional methods. This role demands a strong understanding of space planning, retailer data, OTP/combustible category, high energy, assertive management skills, data integrity, and aptitude to resolve complex problems, dynamics and ability to employ good decision-making skills. This role also requires collaboration and interaction with retailer’s team, our internal teams in areas of product assortment, shelf merchandising, assess across planograms, promotional planning and pricing recommendations

Key Responsibilities

  • Build retailer driven and compelling space and category presentations utilizing industry and category analysis, shopper insights, retailer’s data and available analytic tools
  • Support retailer’s growth through the application of the most recent sales technologies including shelf management technologies, point of sale systems, IRI and Nielsen applications, with emphasis on fact based selling
  • Utilize shelf management software, category expertise, in depth retailer’s sales data and competitor’s merchandizing programs to provide recommendations for shelf placement of new items and existing products with an objective of securing distribution/placement that is mutually beneficial for Fontem US and the retailer 
  • Determine the effectiveness of Fontem US and competitive promotions through post-analysis, and make recommendations internally, and to the account
  • Initiate & synchronize brand strategies/priorities with retailer’s strategies for a win-win. Execute new product initiatives accordingly 
  • Develop scorecards and monitor the execution of 5P activities in line with established objectives and guidelines 
  • Work across all functional areas of the Sales & Operations, RGM, and Trade Activation in developing the business 

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Finance, Economics, Marketing or MIS preferred
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in consumer product sales experience, or other relevant sales/marketing experience required
  • 5 years of experience using JDA or other space management software tools required
  • Syndicated data analysis experience in consumer package goods industry preferred 
  • Tobacco industry experience preferred
  • E-commerce experience a plus


Note:  This role will require approximately 25% travel.
